New project: Automatic Drawings

Starting January 2011, I'm very pleased to offer a rather unique type of commission, which I like to call an "automatic drawing". Here's how it works:

1. You put a pen or pencil to paper and make a free-form scribble. Just let it flow, don't try to make it a picture of anything in particular.
2. Send the scribble to me. I will transfer it to a 5" by 7" piece of hot-press watercolor paper. Then I will pick out shapes and images that I see within the scribble.
3. I will convert the scribbly shapes to an ink drawing in my unique style.

A black and white automatic drawing will cost you $100. If you would like me to add some color, I will do so for $150.

Please note:

  1. The "automatic drawing" allusion is all in fun. This is not meant to diagnose or predict anything.
  2. Due to the nature of the process, I cannot make edits to the piece. That defeats the entire idea! I do promise that what will result is a piece of a quality as high as the rest of my work.
  3. This type of work can take some time. If you have a particular deadline in mind please let me know when you place your order.

If you would like to order an automatic drawing, please contact me at bethywilliams@gmail.com.

Update: Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

1. I'm having computer difficulties which means I don't know when I am going to be able to upload new work. I'm insanely frustrated by this but I'm working on it.

2. I am immensely grateful to everyone who has purchased my prints and wish there was a way to thank every one of them personally. You hear that, deviantART? Even an automated response would be better than nothing.

3. Happy Bloomsday! I wish I was in Dublin.

Remember this one? She's made the transformation from black and white to color.

She is now available as a print on deviantArt. I was cautious about using deviantArt's print service until I saw them in person and observed that they are really good quality prints. Plus, the prices are outstanding. So, it's deviantArt for my prints (at least for now).

I am also going to make the original available for sale on etsy.

Update: Saturday, May 15th, 2010

1. Sunday the 9th was my brother Andrew's birthday.

I got him a jar of black truffle salt as a gift. Later, we went to Pizza Hut and got a large Veggie Lovers (no cheese, add jalapenos). Then we sprinkled truffle salt on the pizza. Oh, yeah...I'm sure Brillat-Savarin would have been proud.

2. I think I am going to do a series of portraits of pulsars or nebulae. Or both!

3. Here's some new work:

Update: Friday, May 7th, 2010

1. I'm kind of in a hurry, so some of this stuff might need some filling in later.

2. It's true that I don't have the printer I was coveting, but I do have a compact photo printer. Maybe there's something I could do with this...mini-prints? I will have to do some experimentation...

3. I received a very nice piece of fan art the other day. You can see it now on my website.

4. I've been working on building and perfecting my Zazzle shop, where I'm offering stickers, magnets, and postcards with some of my favorite works on them. I like this a lot because these kinds of items are a fun and inexpensive way to put some art into your life. I myself have magnets made by some of my favorite artists and it makes me smile every time I open my fridge. Okay, sometimes I smile when I open my fridge because there's pudding in there, but still...If there are some pieces you want to see on a sticker or a magnet let me know, I'd be happy to feature everyone's favorites.

5. Alright, here's some new work:

Update: Sunday, May 2, 2010

1. I need to get myself a quality printer. Not just some piece of crap, something like this: Epson Stylus Pro 4880. All I need to do is put two thousand extra dollars in the bank. Pfft...I can do that. In fact, maybe it will be magically drawn to me just because I talked about it.

2. Here's another preview of a work in progress:

Yes, another work in progress...I know what you are thinking, "Well, Bethy, it's really nice that you apparently have a bunch of half-finished artwork lying around...have you by any chance completed anything lately?" Yes, yes, of course...I have some finished work to go up later.

Update: Monday, April 26, 2010

1. I have an EBSQ account, at last, from now until such time as I can't afford it anymore, I guess. Here: Bethy on EBSQ. Progress on that is slowly but surely creeping along, just like progress on everything else I'm trying to do. If anyone with more EBSQ experience has tips, I'd be happy to hear them.
  2. I am updating on multiple platforms: Livejournal, deviantart, Blogger, Wordpress and Tumblr (my username on all platforms is bethywilliams, except on Livejournal, where it's bethymania). If you think that seems silly and absurd, well so do I. The fact is I got so tired and frustrated with trying to pick one that would be most effective that just doing it this way is actually easier. Now you can use whatever platform you like best and never lose sleep over possibly missing one of my amazing updates.
  3. Here's a tiny peek at what I'm working on right now (taken with my phone camera, I'm afraid):

4. I am really psyched about this and the related series. It premiered last night but I missed it...I heard it was amazing, though. I am a huge fan of Stephen Hawking and after this I love him even more.

Don’t talk to aliens, warns Stephen Hawking

Spook-tacular Halloween Jokes
